Wills

When the time comes, if you would like to leave your assets to those you choose rather than those imposed by the government (what we call the Laws of Intestacy) then you must have a Will.

Some people get nervous about making a Will thinking that it is the legal equivalent of a farewell note but it is not. A properly drawn Will should cover ANY eventuality in your future life and you can always change your Will at any time up to the moment when you yourself pass on.

A Will can be drawn for you in such a way that if you should extend your family or inherit large amounts of money – it would have no effect on the validity of the Will.

Making a Will should be a case of “Make it and Forget it” and at for such a modest cost you cannot afford to be without one. It is simply peace of mind for you and your family.

WARNING: If you are in a non-formalised relationship (for no matter how long), your partner may inherit NOTHING if you have no Will.

 

Probate

When the time comes that a family member passes on there are so many necessary arrangements that often you can have your hands full and you could well do without the additional worry of administrating their estate.

Whether there is a Will or not at Peter Maughan Law we can take care of the estate, the payment of any tax and the distribution of the assets just as the deceased has requested or, should there be no Will, sometimes just as the law dictates.

 

Powers of Attorney

While a Will deals with your assets and your affairs after you have passed on, you may need assistance during your lifetime in dealing with your money, assets and your health and welfare if you become unable to make appropriate decisions or take actions by means of physical or mental impairment. Again- this is another case of peace of mind for a modest cost.
